Let’s meet an experienced and skilled football statistician Gianluca Cugini

We are sharing our recent interview with very experienced football statistician “GIANLUCA CUGINI”.

“GIANLUCA CUGINI interview

Pro Media Mag : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers?
Gianluca : Once a well-known American journalist so described me :
“GIANLUCA CUGINI is an Italian-born football statistician that is already known for evoking high flying deeds when it comes to combining football and sharks statistics.
With the wealth of experience garnered over the years while working for DATASPORT of Milan as football statistician and then International Federation Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) and his traveling experiences to over 110 countries of the world, he has established himself as one of the leading statisticians the game of football has ever produced “
So you understand that my 2 great passions are football and the study of blue sharks ( of course ) if I can apply the statistics in these fields for me is the best.
Keep in mind that the start up of football statistics is relatively recent only since 1987 have been introduced significantly.

Pro Media Mag : Who or what inspired you to get into this profession?
Gianluca : As a child I have these 2 great passions football and sharks study.
Doing it with the statistics is the top. I started with DATASPORT of MIlan at that time certainly one of the first to introduce the statistics in football (in the people of Paolo Casarin and Sergio Chiesa) and then
with the International Federation Football HIstory and Statistics (IFFHS ) in particular thanks to the past President Dr. Alfredo Poge who has grown to a professional and human alive ( not just at the statistical level ! )
I remember with great gratitude that I was the first Italian in the history to be admitted to the World Executive Board IFFHS !
for sharks instead decisive meeting with the famous world expert Dr. Alessandro De Maddalena

Pro Media Mag : You have been working as Football statistician? It must be a kind of job that needs full focus?
Gianluca : It certainly is not a simple job. I think you have to have a great knowledge in the field of football and be able to apply to it with good speed the statistics …..

Pro Media Mag : Any particular experience as statistician that’s still fresh in your memory?
Gianluca : The thing that makes me particularly happy and satisfied is that I have counted hundreds and hundreds of games at all levels …….
From the FIFA World Cup and FIFA World Cup Clubs to the FIFA Confederations CUP and UEFA Euro Cup, UEFA Super Cup, Champions League, Serie A and Italy Cup, Italy Super Cup, FIFA Century Club, FIFA World Cup Sub 20 and even the Olympic Games.
However, what really gave me more pleasure was when I was working for the Azzurri at the FIFA World Cup, my first job.

Pro Media Mag : Your have collected stats for hundreds of games. You must have visited so many countries? How was the experience meeting people around the world?
Gianluca :In fact I really visit so many countries I think they are at least 110 but perhaps many more,
I think I’ve been around the world at least a dozen times …..
I think it was a beautiful and gratifying experience I always dreamed of knowing new countries and cultures far from our Europe as a child.
From Africa to the Far East (and to the Near East), from America to Oceania to be short ……

Pro Media Mag : Traveling so much must have a deep impact on your personal life and your personality?
Gianluca : You are perfectly right I started to travel that I was a child / a boy and helped me to grow and become a man …… we say with large views …..

Pro Media Mag : What’s the biggest achievement in your career so far?
Gianluca : The one I’m most fond of was my first FIFA World Cup with the Azzurri ( followed by many more both for Nations and for Clubs ).
because I started to understand that I could work with the Football statistics ……

Pro Media Mag : Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
Gianluca : By traveling around the world, my love for sharks and especially for blue sharks has grown to a great extent. I have to thank again Dr. Alessandro De Maddalena one of the world’s most shark expert who was the first to believe in my work on sharks and to publish some of them ……
As they say in South Africa : Do not be afraid of a fin, but be afraid of a world without fins …
I rejoice at finning

Pro Media Mag : What’s your favorite place on tour?

Gianluca : Definitely South Africa! Whether for an unforgettable experience in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and for my first diving with the great white sharks.
I have to thank a great man, Nelson Mandela, who today unfortunately no longer exists.
But the whole world has to be grateful to him …. He was very affectionate with me too!
