Knut Schevik talks about his life & adventures

We are sharing our exclusive interview with a passionate and highly skilled entrepreneur and adventurer Knut Schevik.

Knut Schevik

Pro Media Mag : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Knut Schevik :
My name is Knut Schevik, I am a 29 years old Entrepreneur, Dad, and adventurer. I grew up in Chile, South America where I attended a British school and later studied political science in Santiago, Chile. I developed some businesses and a non profit organisation as well as many sailing and mountaineering projects during my years in Chile. Later on I moved to Norway in 2015 to reconnect with my Norwegian roots and seek new opportunities in life.

Pro Media Mag : Who or what inspired you to get into this life full of adventures?
Knut Schevik :
I guess this was a process that started when my parents listed me to sailing lessons when I was 8 years old. This gave me the courage later on to understand the elements, risks, and pretty much be independent in life. My parents always supported me to practice sports, and I tried almost everything from an early age.

Pro Media Mag : How do you cope with loneliness on the mountains ?
Knut Schevik :
I actually feel very strong out there listening to my body, thoughts and It’s a form of therapy for me because I can disconnect from the daily life routines and connect with my true self resulting in a very creative and challenging mode. Most of my ascents are very quick so I don’t feel so lonely but after adding some mountains it gets a bit boring to be alone with yourself all the time hehe! It’s important to keep a healthy balance like in everything else.
I’ve encountered some risky situations in which I wished I had company or help so from a security perspective, I’m aware that going alone involves more risk. In other hand I decide how much time and effort I put into every adventure but most importantly I return with more energy and motivation for my daily life projects.

Pro Media Mag : What kind of response your project #100mountainsfordad has received so far?
Knut Schevik :

At first it was a personal way to cope with my dad’s disappearance so I was not so public about it. but after I started the project I told my family and they thought it was a very nice way to commemorate him. Some said that maybe it was a bit too crazy to climb 100 mountains naturally but they supported me with no doubt.
After I published some of the first ascents on my social media, I got so much positive feedback and even people asking me if they can join me on my next ascents. It’s quite exciting!

Pro Media Mag : What is the biggest sacrifice you’ve made to live this lifestyle?
Knut Schevik :
I guess that my social life has definitely been my biggest sacrifice and affected by all the time I’ve spent on this outdoor projects. I try to balance both things but it’s not so easy considering that I even moved to another country to pursue my personal dreams. Inn addition we are blessed with a 3 month old son and he needs us pretty much all the time so basically there is almost no time for social life at the moment.

Pro Media Mag : What’s the best part of being an adventure loving person?

Knut Schevik : The best part is that it’s a mindset that keeps you constantly motivated by following healthy lifestyle behaviours and pretty much open for any adventure or project with other people. It’s a continuous desire to be involved with the wilderness.

Pro Media Mag : What is the most valuable or profound lesson you’ve learned during this project?
Knut Schevik :
#100mountainsfordad is a project exclusively to commemorate my dad and all others that had disappeared at sea, creating awareness of the sailor conditions and challenges that families must face after a tragedy. One of the most valuable lessons that I learned is that life is too short and we need to be better towards our families and friends. We never know what can happen to us and I feel that with this project I can give a message of hope to people.

Pro Media Mag : What’s up next?
Knut Schevik :
I will keep climbing mountains and spreading the word while reaching hundred mountain tops for this project. I thought in addition that it would be really nice to start a non profit organisation to help families that are experiencing the same issues. It’s an extremely complicated process and many families are left alone with the case. We will see how things develop in the future but I’m open for suggestions.

Pro Media Mag : What’s the best way to follow you online?
Knut Schevik :
Everyone can follow me on Instagram @kschevik or my Facebook fanpage www.facebook.com/knutschevik we’re I will keep posting updates about my #100mountainsfordad journey. I’ll be glad to share more about it.
