Interview with singer & songwriter Joni Sandez

We are sharing our recent interview with singer and songwriter Joni Sandez

Pro Media Mag: First of all please introduce yourself to our readers.
Joni Sandez : It’s a pleasure I’m Joni Sandez and I sing and write Norteno music.

Pro Media Mag : Who or what inspired you to get into music industry?
Joni Sandez : Some early folks maybe like Metallica, Led Zeppelin, and The Strokes. They’re way out of my style of music I know but I just fell in love with the fact that I can some day record and give somebody the same feelings of nostalgia I had as a kid growing up to that kind of music.

Pro Media Mag : Tell us about your most recent release ?
Joni Sandez : A song called “Lecciones de La Vida.” It’s a modern corrido and was picked up pretty well by a couple of spotify playlists.

Pro Media Mag : What’s your favorite music genre?
Joni Sandez : I don’t think I can say haha. I just believe that music is so diverse. I mean I sing with a Norteno band and my first love was heavy metal so wow…

Pro Media Mag : What attracts you more, working in a studio or performing on stage?
Joni Sandez : That’s a really good Pro Media Mag I just love both so much. Studio time is kind of like, get coffee time, bring over some friends, bounce off ideas, and be hunched over my instrument for a day or two.

While performing gets my juices flowing. I meet so many amazing people that have contributed to my career and they really want to meet you sometimes and take a picture with you etc. I love this career so much and although it’s not always what you expect you kind of make the best out of it.

Pro Media Mag : Have you set some goals to achieve?
Joni Sandez : I was called out on Azteca America TV the other day for setting my goals too low haha. But I mean what I told them was yes I do have my short goals which are the ones I’m looking forward to say this year and then my big time goals are kind of like in a couple of years. I really believe we sometimes have to put our feet on the ground and work with what have but at the same time also working forward to what we will have.

Pro Media Mag : Are you working on any new project?
Joni Sandez : Right now I’m doing a feature with Ruth Tejeda she’s a singer for the “Sonora de Los Angeles” and it’s coming out pretty well. The famous “Can You See The Love Tonight.” The problem we’re having is the intro, do we stick strictly to the original or should we try something new without losing the essence of what the song already is. Needless to say I really believe people will like it because it’s got a new Latin style of sierreno that not a lot people record when it comes to American music.
