An Exclusive Interview with Table Tennis Star Marques Morrison
Today in our Interview section we have former table tennis player and current table tennis coach Marques Morrison. Let’s have a chat with him.
Pro Media Mag : First of all tell us about the start of your professional career?
Marques Morrison : In 1996, I moved up from the U-17 circuit to U-21. It was a big jump in competition but I ended up doing pretty well. I ended the season ranked in the United States Top-50 and qualifying for the 1996 Summer Olympic Trials.
Pro Media Mag : Who or what inspired you to get into Table Tennis?
Marques Morrison : My brother was enough motivation for me. For years, we battled against each other every day. Maybe 20 times a day for years!
Pro Media Mag : Tell us about some of your achievements ?
Marques Morrison: Qualifying for the 1996 Summer Olympic Trials was by far the best experience. Ranking in the U-21 Top-50 and making the National Team were was also huge moments for me. Pro Media Mag : Any particular opponent you loved playing with? Marques Morrison: My brother Justin…. all day every day! LOL
Pro Media Mag : You must have set goals when you were playing. Anything you would like to achieve if you are given another chance to play?
Marques Morrison : Yes, I wish I played better at the Olympic trials and made the ’96 Olympic Team in Atlanta.I think nerves got the best of me for those 4 days.
Pro Media Mag : What’s the best part of being a table tennis player. What makes it different from other sports?
Marques Morrison: I enjoy the 1 on 1 aspect of it. There is no one else to blame if you lose, no referee to bail you out or cost you the match and the competitive nature it brings out of you.
Pro Media Mag : Tell us about your experience as a coach?
Marques Morrison: In just my third full season, I’m still fairly new as a table tennis coach, but I’m learning something new every day.I practice teaching the game on my girlfriend Barb every night. She’s going to be real good soon! Watch Out!!
Pro Media Mag : Marques Morrison a better table tennis player or a coach? How would you rate?
Marques Morrison : Player for sure!!! On a 1-10…I’m about a 6 as a coach. LOL
