A Conversation with Quantbiome Founder Richard Lin
Richard Lin is a serial internet startup entrepreneur and is the founder of Quantbiome that helps people learn about the microbes inside and outside the human body to improve health. We are sharing our recent interview with him here.
Pro Media Mag : First of all please introduce yourself to our readers?
Richard Lin : Hi Pro Media Mag Team, my name is Richard and I’m the founder of Quantbiome a service that helps people learn about the microbes inside and outside their body to improve their health. Our company was founded 3 months ago, but we have already generated revenue, have exclusive lab partnerships, and closed half a million dollars in funding
Pro Media Mag : Who or what inspired you to launch Quantbiome?
Richard Lin : About 10 months ago I had to take an antibiotic. The antibiotic made me extremely sick and I ended up in the hospital for a serious infection due to all my good bacteria being wiped out by the medication. While I was at home recovering and trying to figure out what went wrong I stumbled upon the microbiome – which are bacteria/yeast/viruses that reside in our body and influence our health possibly more than genetics. I wanted to know exactly what happened to my microbiome and how to fix it but couldn’t find any solution out there.
Pro Media Mag : Can you please describe how Quantbiome works and in what way it’s helpful for people ?
Richard Lin : Quantbiome allows anyone to test their microbiome and find the 1000’s of species of microorganisms in their body. We correlate their microbiome with several studies using big data and machine learning to help figure out why there is an imbalance and symptoms. The technology is at the cutting-edge and we partner with University of Chicago to provide the service that is affordable and easy-to-use.

Richard Lin : The secret, which really isn’t a secret is in 7 easy steps.
1) Find a problem
2) See if other people have the problem
3) Solve it
4) Get people to pay for it
5) Use that traction as your pitch
6) Find a warm intro (preferably another entrepreneur on good terms with a VC)
7) Pitch and get money

Richard Lin : Keep trying, don’t give up. Learn from others. Be humble.
Pro Media Mag : Are you working on any new projects?
Richard Lin : I’m always thinking of ideas and jotting them down, but right now I’m 100% focused on Quantbiome
