An Interview With World Renowned Photographer Kayee

Photographer Kayee

Please introduce yourself to the readers and how and when did you first get into photography?

Hi, My name is Kayee and I am a portrait and fashion photographer originally from Hong Kong. I have been shooting almost 10 years, but I started to do it professionally about 5 years ago when my grandpa gave me my first camera. It was a very old Canon Range Finder, I think this is how I started to shoot and fell in love with photography.

What inspired you to get into this business?

I actually never imagined myself to be a photographer. I always imagined myself being an actress or director. I guess people change all the time and I am kind of just following my gut instinct and doing things I like and that make me happy.

What kind of training have you had, if any?

I first learned photography from College in Hong Kong. I was majoring in film, but I got my main photography training from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena.

What has been your favorite shoot to be a part of so far?

One of my favorite shoots was the editorial I shot for Atlas Magazine with Chinese actress Xu Jiao. I spent lots of time in the creative direction and styling and Xu Jiao is great model and she picks up emotion very fast. I really liked the editorial story.

What has been one of the most exciting achievements of your career so far?

It would be the shoot I did for COSMO China with Xu Jiao again.COSMO was one of my favorite magazines when I was young and I am just so excited to be a part of it.

What projects do you have coming up?

I am collaborating with some really cool fashion brands and I am also working on a personal project photo book about hunting.

Who would you most like to work with if you had a choice. Any particular person, subject or photographer?

I would really love to do a shoot with G-Dragon

What are your plans for the future as a photographer?

I hope I am always shooting what I love and what I believe in. I think this is the most important thing to a photographer.

What is your advice to aspiring photographers getting into the creative world?

Just keep trying! Reach out to people, show people your work, and be confident.
